Three days before they are to face each other for the first time this season, the Whalley Chiefs and North Delta Blue Jays both lost Wednesday night.
The Chiefs were blanked 3-0 buy the Coquitlam Reds in their BC Premier Baseball League game at Whalley Stadium, while North Delta was at home at Mackie Park where they were thumped 16-1 by the Langley Blaze.
The Blue Jays dropped to 2-3 (won-lost) and 10th place in the 13-team league, while Whalley’s record fell to 1-6.
The Chiefs took the Reds into extra innings before allowing three runs in the eighth frame on two hits and a pair of walks.
Roberto Bevacqua took the loss for Whalley, after pitching for all but the last one-third of an inning. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out seven Coquitlam batters.
The Chiefs managed just four this, two singles each from Garrett Hasner and Tyler Ang.
A day after handing the Abbotsford Cardinals their first win of the season, the Jays were hammered by 14 Langley hits. The Blaze scored twice scored drive runs in an inning, the game ending on the 10-run mercy rule after the fifth inning.
Langley had four batters with multiple-hit games, and their pitchers held the Blue Jays to just four singles.
The Chiefs will host North Delta for a doubleheader Saturday at Whalley Stadium, with the first game schedule for noon.
