One of the top drivers at Fraser Downs represents B.C. at the upcoming Standardbred Canada National Driving Championships.

Cloverdale's Jim Marino, a Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary grad, qualified at the last day of live racing this spring at Fraser Downs Racetrack and Casino, which hosted the western region championship. He won the last race of the event to qualify to go to PEI, says Jackson Wittup, executive director of Harness Racing B.C.

Marino has had 286 starts so far this year, with 52 wins, 52 seconds and 31 thirds, with $348,000 in earnings.

The winner of the PEI event on Tuesday, Aug. 26, goes to the world driving championship in Australia in early 2015.
