Only one of the three Surrey schools competing at the B.C. Senior 4A Boys High School Basketball Championships advanced past the first round.
The five-seed Holy Cross Crusaders are in the quarterfinal stage of the 16-team tournament at the Langley Events Centre, after a 58-47 victory Wednesday afternoon over the 12-seed Belmont Bulldogs.
The Crusaders erased a five-point deficit at three-quarter time for the win. Uyi Ologhola was top scorer for Holy Cross with 15 points, with Gabe Takeawoa adding 13.
The Crusaders will play the four-seed Vancouver College Fighting Irish at 5:15 this evening (Thursday).
The nine-seed Semiahmoo Totems fell 79-69 to the eight-seed Kitsilano Blue Demons. Brian Wallack with 22 points and Vlad Mihaila with 21 led the Totems offense.
The Totems will start consolation play today at 10:15 a.m. against the Mt. Baker Wild of Cranbrook.
The Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers are also on the consolation side of the draw, as the tournament's 10-seed fell 89-56 to the seven-seed St. George's Saints.
Dylan Kinley with 22 points was the top scorer for Lord Tweedsmuir, which will play the 15-seed North Peace Oscars of Fort St. John at noon today.
