A fourth consecutive BC Scotties provincial women’s curling championship is a game away from Kelly Scott.
Scott edged Patti Knezevic of Prince George 8-7 Friday night, advancing to tomorrow’s championship game at 2 p.m. at the Cloverdale Curling Club.
A steal of two by Scott in the eight end gave the Kelowna curler a 7-4 lead with two frames left, but Knezevic put up two in the ninth and stole one on the 10th to force the extra end.
Scott (with third Jeanna Schraeder, second Sasha Carter and lead Sarah Wazney) made the most of a second chance to get the win, earning a day off today (Saturday).
Knezevic (with third Kirsten Fewster, second Jen Rusnell and lead Thona Camozzi) will now need to win twice to take the BC Scotties title. She is in a semifinal game tonight, where a win will earn a rematch with Scott tomorrow.
Marla Mallett of the host Cloverdale Club and Allison MacInnes of the Abbotsford Curling Club are playing off this morning to determine the second semifinalist.
Mallett (wth third Kelly Shimizu, second Shannon Ward and lead Barb Zbeetnoff) was tied for top spot after round robin play with Knezevic and Scott at 7-2 (won-loss), but was relegated to third after the tiebreaker.
MacInnes was 6-3, and had to defeat Marilou Richter (6-3) of the Royal City Curling Club in a tiebreaker yesterday afternoon, doing so by an 11-8 margin.
Trailing 6-2 after four ends, Richter scored three in the fifth to cut the difference to one. But MacInness replied with three of her own, regaining a large lead she maintained the rest of the way.
This morning’s game is at 10 a.m., the winner playing Knezevic tonight at 5:30 p.m.
