In the end, nobody else came close to matching the scores diver Nicholas Nepomuceno put up on the board Friday, in the final BC Winter Games event of the day at Langley's Walnut Grove Community Centre.But despite the wide margin of victory in the boys 'B' division three-metre competition - Nepomuceno's final-round score of 345.80 was more than 100 points better than the second-place marks - the 13-year-old Zone 5 (Vancouver-Squamish) diver was not taking anything for granted."You never expect (to win), or expect to get a (particular) score, because anything can happen. You never know what could go wrong," he said, moments after having the gold medal placed around his neck."But I'm pretty happy. This is the best results I've had in a while."The second-place finisher, Fraser Valley's Kurt Breure, was equally as happy with his silver medal, especially considering he dove with a broken thumb, which was bandaged up during competition. Breure, from South Surrey, suffered the injury three weeks ago in training, and only returned to the pool Tuesday.He finished with a total score of 222.05."I was a little rusty, but it came back quick," the 14-year-old said, adding that the injury kept him from doing many head-first dives, as they're harder on his hands.He wasn't sure how long his injury would take to heal, but said he "hit it pretty good during one of the dives today, so who knows."Third place in the event went to Zone 2 (Thompson-Okanagan) diver Liam Haasdyk, who scored a total of 167.40 in the final dive.
