Fastpitch committee makes bid for World Championships

Members of the Canadian Open Fastpitch Society are in Cartagena, Colombia this week, making their bid to the ISF congress.

The organizers behind Surrey’s bid for the 2016 ISF Women’s World Softball Championships will know Friday whether their efforts will be rewarded.

Members of the committee – the same group behind the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship, which is played annually at Softball City – are in Cartagena, Colombia this week, and on Friday will make their final presentation to the International Softball Federation congress.

Soon after their presentation ends, the congress will vote to see which city will be awarded the event.

In the summer, Gregg Timm – chair of the Canadian Open Fastpitch Society  – was unsure what other cities would be bidding on the 2016 event, though he predicted Surrey would have strong competition from cities in Chinese-Taipei and South Africa, among others.
