Langley's Danton Heinen finished as a runner-up for the national junior A rookie of the year award.
Heinen, the Surrey Eagles captain, had a spectacular first season in the B.C. Hockey League, leading the Eagles in scoring with 29 goals and 62 points in 57 games this past season. The 62 points had him 10th in league scoring and tops among all rookies.
He also tied for the team scoring lead with two goals and seven points in the Eagles' first round loss to the Langley Rivermen.
His play — which also included just eight penalty minutes — earned the 18-year-old the BCHL's Bruce Allison Memorial Trophy (rookie of the year) and the Bob Fenton Trophy (most sportsmanlike player).
He was one of the nominees for the Canadian Junior Hockey League rookie of the year.
Heinen played junior B last season with the Richmond Sockeyes, helping the team win the league championship, the Cyclone Taylor Cup championship (provincial championship) and the Keystone Cup (western Canadian championship).
In his first season with Surrey, he was given the 'C' in January.
He has also earned a scholarship to the University of Denver.
