Locals qualify for nationals

Seven gymnasts will compete at Canadian championships in Ottawa

Kevin Naismith of the Surrey Gymnastic Society is one of seven local athletes to qualify for the national championships in Ottawa.

Seven local athletes will be competing at the 2014 Canadian Gymnastics Championships May 26-31 in Ottawa. The gymnasts were selected following a series of trials.

Shallon Olsen, 13, of the Omega Gymnastics Academy is looking for her fourth consecutive national championship, having won previously in the Novice category in 2011 and in the Junior group in 2012 and 2013. Olsen is a member of the national women’s artistic team.

Kevin Naismith of the Surrey Gymnastic Society has been selected to compete in men’s artistic gymnastics.

Surrey residents Taylor Oakley of Flicka Gymnastics in North Vancouver and Allyson Armstrong on the Langley Gymnastics Foundation will compete in women’s artistic, while Surrey’s Doug Armstrong and Owen Armstrong of Flip City Gymnastics in Langley and Liam Doherty of the Shasta club will compete in trampoline.
