A pair of Surrey teams have qualified for the B.C. High School Senior AAA Soccer Championships.

The top-seed Panorama Ridge Thunder and the four-seed Clayton Heights Nightriders have reached the semifinal round of the 16-team Fraser Valley championship tournament, which began Monday (May 8) and concludes next Thursday (May 18).

Both teams have won their first two games of the Fraser Valley tournament. At Newton Athletic Park, Panorama Ridge topped the Abbotsford Panthers 7-1 on Monday, then beat the Centennial Centaurs 3-1 on Wednesday.

Clayton Heights hosted two opponents at Cloverdale Athletic Park, defeating the Terry Fox Ravens 3-1 in the first round before a 3-0 victory over the Walnut Grove Gators in Wednesday’s quarterfinal round.

The Thunder and Nightriders will play in one semifinal match Monday at 3:30 p.m. at 3 p.m. at Newton Athletic Park. The Sardis Falcons and Charles Best Blue Devils will play in the other semifinal, with both teams having qualified for the B.C. Championships.

Seven teams from the Fraser Valley tournament will qualify for the provincial tournament, to be played May 31 to June 1 in Burnaby, which means three more teams have yet to qualify.

The Fleetwood Park Dragons and Enver Creek Cougars are hoping to be one of those teams. They will play each other Monday, with the winner earning two more chances to get one more win and secure a top-seven placing. The loser of Monday’s game will be eliminated.
