Jimsher Sidhu has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend South Dakota State University next fall on a wrestling scholarship.

“Jimmy is truly a diamond in the rough,” said South Dakota State Jackrabbits head coach Chris Bono of the Surrey resident. “He has the build that we were looking for and the sky is the limit for him. We are beyond excited to get him in the room.”

Sidhu, 17, is a member of the Khalsa Wrestling Club in Surrey, and competed in the 100kg. class this past year. He placed third at the 2014 Cadet Pan-Am Championships in Recife, Brazil in May, was first at the Juvenile national championships in Guelph, Ontario in April, and was third in the 110 kg. class at the B.C. High School championships in Prince George in March.

He was one of two wrestlers to sign with South Dakota State this month, joining Henry Pohlmeyer of Iowa as Jackrabbits recruits.

“These two guys add another level of depth and intensity to our program.” Bono said. “They are going to come here and bring immediate competition to our room, which is going to make our team stronger. This is an outstanding recruiting class that will help us take the next step as a program.”
