Surrey Eagles travel to Penticton for Game 3, 4 of BCHL playoffs

Fred Page Cup championship series tied 1-1 after weekend games in South Surrey

It was a thrilling 6-0 shutout win vs. Penticton Vees on home ice Friday (May 17) for the Surrey Eagles, who plan to finish the way they started, despite losing 3-1 to their rivals in Game 2 of the Fred Page Cup championship series Saturday (May 18).

Plenty of fans packed South Surrey arena, also known as The Nest, to support the Eagles – who had one of their best regular seasons ever – in their journey towards their ultimate goal: British Columbia Hockey League’s Fred Page Cup.

Although captain Ty Brassington and Sid McNeill assisted Aaron Schwartz in scoring Saturday’s first goal in the second period, the Penticton Vees scored three unanswered goals in the third period, from Lucas Sorace, James Fisher and Thomas Pichette.

Penticton Vees, who won the past two Fred Page Cups, are aiming for a three-peat, but the Eagles’ outstanding regular season put the South Surrey squad at the top of the league in points, coaching, scoring and goaltending, earning six of the BCHL’s nine year-end trophies.

With the series now tied 1-1, Eagles travel to Penticton for Game 3 and 4, to be played Tuesday and Wednesday (May 21 and 22) at the South Okanagan Events Centre, before returning home to South Surrey for Game 5 this Friday (May 24).
