Surrey players power Team BC into playoffs

With five players from Surrey in its lineup, Team BC has advanced to the semifinal round of the baseball tournament after winning five of six games in pool play at the Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Team BC will play New Brunswick in a semifinal match tonight (Thursday), with the medal games set for tomorrow.

Mitch Robinson and Justin Lawrence, both members of the Langley Blaze of the BC Premier Baseball League (PBL), Ryan Pouwells of the PBL’s Whalley Chiefs and Dylan Yeager of the White Rock Tritons have contributed offensively.

Robinson (third base) has hit .381 through six games, driving in three runs and scoring four. He has one double and a triple among his eight hits.

Lawrence (left field) is batting .375 with two doubles and a grand-slam home run, with nine RBIs and six runs scored.

Pouwells (infielder) has played in four of the six games, going four-for-11 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Yeager (catcher/first base) is six-for-18 with a double and six runs scored.

Scott Doucet of the Tritons has pitched in two games, giving up one earned run in 2.1 innings pitched with three strikeouts.
