Panorama Ridge Thunder senior girls players celebrate their Goodwill Basketball Classic tourney championship following a 76-71 win over Tweedsmuir Panthers on Jan. 7 at Tweedsmuir's gym.

LANGLEY — At least one Surrey team will be in the final of the 2017 BC Secondary School AAA Girls Championship.

Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers and Panorama Ridge Thunder senior girls teams will meet in the tourney semifinal on Final Four Friday (March 3), after both teams won their top-bracket games on Thursday.

Friday's semifinal game will be played at 3:30 p.m. at Langley Events Centre's Centre Court.

One day after all eight of the top seeds were victorious, #8 Lord Tweedsmuir played spoiler for #1 Oak Bay with a 81-78 win.

“It was an absolutely amazing evening! Two teams with opposite styles going at it, one that was big and slower and the other that was quick and shoots fast,” stated Tweedy head coach Curtis McCrae.

“We are expecting a great game tomorrow against Panorama. A team we battled against five or six times a season. We actually lost to them in the Grade 10 Finals, so it is a team we know very well and we expect an absolute battle.”

Panorama Ridge, ranked #5, took care of business by beating Walnut Grove by a score of 85-70.
