Three members of the Sungod Swim Club have qualified for the B.C. Long Course AAA championships in Victoria this summer.
Cory Bullock, Alix Main and Claudia Baxter achieved qualifying times at the BC Short Course AA championships in Chilliwack March 1-2. They were among six swimmers from Sungod to qualify for finals at the meet.
“Everyone was mentally sharp this weekend,” said Sungod head coach Kurt Murphy. “It was great to see every swimmer on their game and going after goals that they had set at the beginning of the season. We are looking at bringing an even bigger team for the long course championships in Victoria this June.”
Bullock, 13, led the Sungod group in Chilliwack by winning gold medals in the 200m butterfly, and the 100m and 200m back stroke. He also won a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle and was sixth in the 100m freestyle. He achieved a personal best in all events.
Main, 16, also won gold, placing first in her 100m breast stroke race, while Baxter, 13, took silver medals in the 100m back stroke and 1,500m freestyle. Baxter was also eighth in the 100m butterfly.
Nicholas Kidd won two medals and was in seven finals. He won silver in the 100m back stroke, and bronze in the 1,500m freestyle. The 160-year-old was also fourth in the 100m butterfly, sixth in the 200m freestyle, seventh in the 400m freestyle and 200m back stroke, and eighth in the 400m individual medley.
Albert Yu, 12, won a bronze medal in the 100m and 200m breast stroke while Caralyn Vossen, 16, was seventh in her 100m breast stroke race.
