Thirteen local teams in Coastal Cup

Youth soccer competition concludes this weekend in Richmond

Thirteen local soccer teams are among the 44 finalists in the 2014 Coastal Cup youth soccer tournament.

Finals in 22 age groups and categories will be played Saturday and Sunday in Richmond, with half the games involving teams from Surrey and Delta.

There will be two matches featuring a pair of local teams. Surrey FC Pegasus will kick off against the Delta Coastal Sting in the U15 Girls A Cup Saturday morning, while Sunday’s U18 Boys A Cup final will see Surrey FC Pegasus playing Surrey Guildford United.

Among the local clubs, Surrey FC has placed the most teams in a Coastal Cup final with five teams playing in Richmond this weekend. Others are Surrey FC Pegasus in the U15 Boys A Cup against Coquitlam Metro Ford United, the Surrey FC Ravens in the U15 Boys B Cup against the South Burnaby Metro Strikers and the Surrey FC Rangers in the U14 Boys B Cup against KLM United.

Delta Coastal FC has four finalists. In addition to the Sting, Delta Coastal Selects teams will play in both the U13 Girls A Cup against the PoCo Euro-Rite Castilians and the U14 Boys A Cup against the Upper Vancouver Island Riptide. The Coastal FC Royal 97 will take on the Aldergrove Ambush in the U17 Girls B Cup final.

Other Surrey teams in a Coastal Cup final include Surrey Guildford United in the U13 Boys A Cup final against the Burnaby Selects, the Central City Breakers Elite against the Tsawwassen Blues in the U18 Boys B Cup, and Surrey United Elite in the U18 Girls B Cup against Cliff Avenue United.
