Seven Sungod swimmers qualify for finals at regional meet

Seven swimmers from the Delta Sungod Swim Club qualified for finals at the Lower Mainland Regional Championship in Burnaby June 13-15.

Harbir Grewal, 10, was the lone Delta swimmer to reach the podium, and did so three times. He won a gold medal in his 200m back stroke race, added silver in the 400m individual medley and took the bronze in the 50m freestyle. He was also seventh in the 100m breast stroke.

Sarveen Sangha, 11, qualified for four finals, and placed fourth in both the 400m individual medley and the 100m breast stroke. She was also fifth in the 200m freestyle and seventh in the 50m freestyle.

Meghan Loshinin, 12, Delphine Wang, nine, and Aaron Zhou, 10, reached three finals each. Loshinin was fifth in the 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly and seventh in the 50m freestyle, while Wang was fourth in the 400m individual medley and, seventh in the 100m butterfly and eighth in the 50m freestyle. Zhou was sixth in the 200m back stroke and seventh in the 50m and 400m freestyle races.

Other swimmers in finals were 10-year-olds Samantha Kidd (seventh in the 400m individual medley) and Akashvir Banghu (eighth in the 400mo freestyle).

“The kids handled themselves very well over the weekend.  They got to swim a lot of longer races and their tenacity was remarkable,” said Sungod coach Erin Taylor.
