Their season is nearing an end, but the North Delta Devils aren’t giving up.

The Pacific Junior Hockey League team earned three of a possible four points last weekend, playing to a 4-4 tie with the North Vancouver Wolf Pack Saturday night in the Sundgod Arena then upsetting the Grandview Steelers 5-3 Sunday in Burnaby.

In both games, the Devils fell behind early, but came back to erase two-goal deficits.

Against North Vancouver Saturday night, Dylan McCann opened the scoring for the home team but the Wolf Pack took a 3-1 lead my the midway point of the game. Levi De Waal of North Delta then went to work, scoring to cut the difference to 3-2 after 40 minutes.

The Wolf Pack restored their two-goal cushion five minutes into the third period, before De Waal netted a powerplay goal with seven minutes to play and a tying goal with less than four minutes remaining.

Ten minutes of overtime were scoreless.

The Devils won the special teams battle, going one-for-four on the powerplay while the Wolf Pack was scoreless on five tries.

The Devils trailed 3-1 after 20 minutes in Sunday’s game, with De Waal scoring for the visitors.

North Delta pulled even in the second period, as Jackson Surbey drew an assist on a goal by Joshua Trisevic then scored himself on the powerplay,

Nicholas Holowko notched the winner five minutes into the second period, and Mitchell Biermann added an insurance goal 68 seconds later.

The Devils, at 9-28-1-2 (win-loss-overtime loss-tied), have four games remaining on their schedule. They will host the third-place Delta Ice Hawks Saturday night in the Sungod Arena at 7:15 p.m.
