Valley West earns a tie

BC Hockey Major Midget hockey team tied for fourth place

A third-period rally allowed the Valley West Hawks to earn a point in Prince George, and remain in fourth place in the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League.

After a 5-2 loss to the Cariboo Cougars Saturday night, Valley West got goals from Spencer Meyer and Daniell Lange in the last 10 minutes to play to salvage a 2-2 tie.

The Hawks are 14-11-1 (won-lost-tied), and in a three-way tie for fourth place with the Vancouver Canadians and Okanagan Rockets, both of which are 12-9-5.

The Fraser Valley Bruins, at 11-10-5, are one place out of a playoff position, two points back of the Hawks, Canadians and Rockets.

Valley West also battled back from a 2-0 deficit Saturday night, with Danton Heinen and Meyer netting goals 15 seconds apart early in the second period.

But seven minutes later, the Cougars were up by two once again, and added an empty net goal in the final minute for the win.

The Hawks will face-off against the 11-11-2 North Island Silvertips Saturday and Sunday at Planet Ice in Coquitlam. All MML games will be played at Planet Ice this weekend, following Friday night’s all-star game.

Defenceman Jerrett Smith and forward Friesen, both of Surrey, will represent the Hawks on Team White. Defenceman Jordan Klimek and forwards Heinen and Lange, all of Langley, will suit up for Team Blue.

The all-star game will face-off at 7 p.m. Friday at Planet Ice.
