VMSL opens season in Newton

Local teams among Premier Division clubs to play Saturday

Newton Athletic Park will host the opening weekend of the Vancouver Metro Soccer League’s Premier Division schedule.

All 12 Premier Division teams will be in action Saturday, including all four local teams. The defending provincial champion Surrey United Firefighters will kickoff against West Van FC at 4 p.m., as will ICST Pegasus and Rover CCBTU.

Both Pegasus and the Rovers will call Newton Athletic Park home during the season, while United will play out of Cloverdale Athletic Park.

The Delta United Hurricanes play the Richmond FC Hibernians at 2 p.m. Saturday, a week before their first home game at John Oliver Park in North Delta.
