Warriors, Wildcats in RCMP final

All-Surrey high school boys basketball tournament concludes tonight

The expected finalists will tip-off tonight at 7 p.m. to determine the champion of the 20-13 Surrey RCMP Classic senior boys high school basketball tournament.

The White Rock Christian Academy Warriors (WRCA) will seek an 11th RCMP Classic title against the defending champion Tamanawis Wildcats after both teams won semifinal games last night.

The Warriors topped the Enver Creek Cougars 70-50. WRCA’s Vartan Taniellian was named the Game Star.

Tamanawis, led by Game Star Sukhman Sandhu, got past the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers 74-59.

WRCA is ranked second in a provincial poll posted Wednesday by the British Columbia High School Boys Basketball Association. The Wildcats are ranked fifth, while Enver Creek is 10th.

Three games today at Enver Creek Secondary conclude the senior boys competition, with the championship game at 7:45 p.m. The Cougars and Panthers play for third place at 5:45 p.m., with a game at 2 p.m. between the Fleetwood Park Dragons and Fraser Heights Firehawks determining fourth place.

Tamanawis Secondary can win a pair of RCMP titles today. The Wildcats will play the Semiahmoo Totems in the Junior boys final at noon.

Game Star Brian Spanier led the Totems to a 52-32 victory over Fleetwood Park in one semifinal Thursday night, while the Wildcats edged Lord Tweedsmuir 58-54, with Sahil Dhami of Tamanawis named the Game Star.
