White Rock’s Jason Garrison has a new hockey home – the bright lights of Las Vegas.

The veteran National Hockey League defenceman – and former Vancouver Canuck – was selected Wednesday night by the league’s newest team, the Vegas Golden Knights, in the league’s expansion draft.

In the draft, the Knights selected one player from each of the NHL’s 30 teams – teams submitted protected lists last week, but Garrison was left exposed by his former club, the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Garrison was in Las Vegas Wednesday night, and took part in the expansion team’s roster announcement. After being selected, he told the Tampa Bay Times, “I’ll miss Tampa. But it’s a new chapter.”

The Knights will be Garrison’s fourth NHL team. He began his career with the Florida Panthers, and played three seasons in the Sunshine State before signing with his hometown Canucks as a free-agent in 2012. He played two seasons in Vancouver, before he was dealt to Tampa Bay prior to the 2014/15 season.

Last season, the 32-year-old Garrison had one goal and eight assists in 70 games.

Two other local NHLers – Surrey’s Jujhar Khaira and Cloverdale goaltender Laurent Brossoit, both members of the Edmonton Oilers – were also left expsosed in expansion draft, but were not selected. The Vancouver Canucks lost defenceman Luca Sbisa to the Knights in the draft.
