“I am here to seek the blessings of the seniors and I was also told by Satbir that this is an opportunity for me to become a part of the PICS family. I am honoured to be a PICS family member,” B.C. Premier David Eby said during his visit to the PICS assisted living facility.

The community is coming together in support of a long-term senior care in Surrey this April when the Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society welcomes Premier Eby to its “Friends of PICS” Gala & Fundraiser 2024.

From festive gatherings to galas, Premier Eby’s involvement shows the government’s dedication to social services and multicultural educational organizations like PICS, shares Satbir Singh Cheema, President & CEO of PICS Society.

During the Christmas season, Premier Eby joined PICS seniors from the Assisted Living program for the announcement of funding for an electric bus, a thoughtful gesture that brought smiles to many faces but also highlighted the importance of acknowledging and caring for the elderly, especially during the holiday season.

A Gala with a Purpose

In support of their ongoing work in the community, the PICS Society is hosting the “Friends of PICS Gala & Fundraiser 2024, an evening of celebration, networking and philanthropy. Scheduled for April 12, at the Fraserview Banquet Hall in Vancouver, the event promises to be an engaging platform for community leaders, stakeholders and supporters to come together and share common resources.

With Premier Eby attending as the chief guest, the gala aims to raise funds for vital projects like the Guru Nanak Diversity Village, showcasing the collective effort to support and empower those in need.

“Having Premier Eby as our chief guest not only honours our efforts but significantly boosts our mission to provide comprehensive services to our community. His presence is a testament to the government’s unwavering support for initiatives that foster inclusivity, diversity and empowerment,” says Phalak Betab, Marketing, Communications & Fundraising officer at PICS.

The gala and fundraiser event encapsulate the spirit of community support and engagement. The involvement of former Premier Glen Clark as the keynote speaker further emphasizes the cross-partisan support for community services and the impact of collaborative efforts in building a stronger, more inclusive society.

As British Columbia continues to navigate the complexities of multiculturalism and social services, the partnership between the government and organizations like PICS stands as a model of compassion, commitment and community-building.
