SURREY — Money from a Canadian bank will make Forsyth Park a nicer place to play.

TD Bank Group has given the City of Surrey $500,000 to help develop the new park, located in the City Centre area on 139th Street, at 106th Avenue.

The funding announcement, made Thursday afternoon (Feb. 9), is in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday.

The money will support the creation of the TD Nature Play Area, to consist of 1.5 acres of new park space, including a custom-designed natural play area, trees, gardens and a connected pathway system to encourage walking and cycling, according to a city statement.

"We are pleased to accept this generous donation from TD to develop Forsyth Park, which will be one of the premier green spaces in Surrey City Centre," said Mayor Linda Hepner.

"The TD Nature Play Area will be one of the new parks to be constructed in City Centre and will serve as the primary public space in the Forsyth neighbourhood, which will be home to many more people, businesses and services in the future."

When completed, the park will also be used for school programs and outdoor studies in partnership with the Surrey Nature Centre.

"For over 25 years, TD has been committed to revitalizing and enriching green spaces across the country," said Mauro Manzi, Senior Vice President, TD Bank Group (Pacific Region).

"To continue this commitment, TD will be supporting the development of Forsyth Park in Surrey and over 150 other initiatives across the country in celebration of Canada's 150 years since Confederation."
