With blood pouring out of his head from a cut artery, Barry tried to flag someone down on 96 Avenue to help him, but only one man stopped on Sunday afternoon.
If you were in the 19300 block of 96 Avenue on Sunday, at 2 p.m., the family of a Langley man is hoping you may have information about a hit and run that almost cost him his life.
Barry (who is only being identified by his first name) was driving east on 96 Avenue when a full-sized white pickup truck travelling west came into his lane, hitting his truck's driver side mirror.
"My brother happened to have his window down at the time and the glass from the mirror hit him in the head, cutting an artery above his ear, at his temple," said Barry's sister, Victoria Roberts.
"He stopped on the road, and he touched his face and it felt wet. He touched the side of his head and blood was pumping out. He did manage to see the other driver brake and turn left, going south on 192 Street."
Barry pulled his truck into a business’ parking lot and tried to flag someone down to help him, but to no avail.
"Cars were just driving past him. He said it was disheartening to see no one was stopping.
“He started feeling sick because he was losing so much blood."
He couldn't use his own phone because blood had covered his hands and phone.
Finally, one man, who identified himself as Larry, pulled over, she said. He was in his 40s, around the same age as Barry.
"He saw how bad my brother was and called 911."
Barry was rushed to hospital and was taken immediately into surgery. Six staples were used to close the artery, said Roberts. His family is grateful he is alive.
"He's doing OK now, but he's pretty stiff in his neck. He said he saw the truck coming into his lane so he tried to move out of the way, but still got hit," she said.
Barry’s truck was pulling a trailer at the time of the crash.
Surrey RCMP arrived at the scene and the family's hope is that the driver is held accountable for dangerous driving.
There are a number of surveillance cameras in the area, so the family is hoping police will review those.
Surrey RCMP said their investigation continues.
