OUR VIEW: Shootings get more brazen by the day

If this pattern of idiocy continues in Surrey, it’s only a matter of time before innocent victims die

In Wednesday’s issue, we wrote about Surrey’s seemingly endless issue with shootings.

We reminded our readers about statements made from our civic leaders going back to 2014 about how angry and determined they were to solve this issue once and for all.

It stirred up quite a discussion on our Facebook page.

Most echoed our frustration with the lack of results. As the shootings pile up yet again in 2017, the lack of arrests, charges and convictions have become painfully clear.

Some, however, indicated that the fact these punks are taking each other out does not endanger us in any way.

Let them shoot each other up, some say. No skin off our backs.

We shouldn’t have to point out the lunacy of that sentiment, but we will anyway.

It was only two months ago that a 64-year-old woman was shot during a “targeted” drive-by shooting in Surrey.

Needless to say, the senior wasn’t the “target.”

And on Wednesday night, these lowlife thugs have taken their violence to seemingly new levels. Now, they’re shooting at each other while driving along Highway 1.

It doesn’t surprise us that the violence continues. Nor does it surprise us that the risk to the public is escalating.

We are shocked, however, that more people aren’t dying – both the “targeted” victims and the innocent ones.

Unfortunately, if this pattern of idiocy continues, it’s only a matter of time.
