A Mission brew pub is pitting a cask of its beer against one from a Surrey brewery in a friendly competition happening July 14.
This is the second cask night held at the Mission Springs Brewing Company, and the local business is aiming to make it a monthly event.
Surrey's Big Ridge Brewing Company is bringing a cask of India Pale Ale (IPA) for customers to sample, perched right next to Springs’ brewmaster Tim Brown’s IPA.
Casks are 40-litre stainless steel barrels, explained Springs’ general manager Niki Reibin, containing one-off beer creations.
“Once it’s gone, it’s gone,” she said.
Brown said he’s building a “standard” IPA for the Thursday event, which gets underway with a tapping of the cask at approximately 5:30 p.m.
Interest in craft beer — generally defined as beer created by small-scale breweries — has been surging in the Fraser Valley and the rest of North America for the past two years.
