February will bring a merger of two long-established law firms in Surrey.

Hamilton Duncan, considered one of the largest and longest-tenured law firms in the Fraser Valley, is joining forces with Peterson Stark Scott.

As of Feb. 1, all six of Peterson Stark Scott’s lawyers and most staff members will join Hamilton Duncan and practice under the Hamilton Duncan name at the latter firm’s existing offices in the Gateway tower, 108 Avenue.

“This is Hamilton Duncan’s largest merger in recent history and comes at the perfect time for both firms,” Greg Palm, Hamilton Duncan’s managing partner, said in a company news release, posted online.

“Our strategic plan calls for continued growth, so we were looking to add practitioners with established practices and deep roots in the Surrey community,” Palm added.

“Peterson Stark Scott was seeking to transition its practice to a larger firm that would both complement its current offerings and provide its clients access to a wider range of legal services while remaining in Surrey. This transaction accomplishes both.”

Hamilton Duncan is celebrating its 65th year as a full-service business and litigation law firm.

In Surrey since 1972, Peterson Stark Scott has offered corporate, commercial, estate planning, real estate, family law, civil litigation and other legal services.

“As our clients’ needs have continued to evolve, we recognized that we also needed to evolve to meet them,” said John Peterson, a founding partner of Peterson Stark Scott.

“At the same time, it was important for us to find the right fit in terms of culture, locale and client experience. While Hamilton Duncan is one of the Fraser Valley’s largest firms, its smaller-firm culture, commitment to the Surrey community and dedication to building and maintaining personal relationships as trusted advisors made it the ideal partner. We could not be more pleased about joining with Hamilton Duncan.”

Nearly two years ago, in April 2022, Hamilton Duncan announced the acquisition of the law practice of the Tri-Cities firm of Learn Zenk.
