January marks a new year, which brings many new beginnings.
This January, MLA Jagrup Brar has decided to show BC residents the plight of an individual living on income assistance – he is demonstrating how difficult it is for those on social assistance, and how far one must stretch their dollars.
Keeping with this momentum, PICS Society is advocating and demonstrating for the rights of farmworkers and seniors in BC.
For years farmworkers have desperately advocated for equality and basic rights given to other BC workers.
While some demands have been met for this large group of workers, many rights have yet to be given. Farm workers demand minimum wage, stat holidays, overtime pay, and the rights that any other workers in BC are given under the Employment Standards Act.
Seniors want free drug prescriptions, proper shed coverings at BC Transit bus stops, and an end to the $15 BC Hydro surcharge.
