Surrey native brings exceptional experience to Kwantlen

Kwantlen Polytechnic University has announced the appointment of Dr. Jane Fee as associate vice-president, academic. Dr. Fee is currently the associate dean of arts and social sciences at Simon Fraser University and will join Kwantlen on Sept. 1, 2011.

Dr. Fee completed her PhD at the University of British Columbia in 1991 and brings to Kwantlen an extensive academic career that has taken her across Canada.

Following the completion of a project with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University, she served as an associate professor in the School of Human Communication Disorders at Dalhousie University. At Dalhousie, she also served as a faculty representative on the Board of Governors and as the president of the Dalhousie Faculty Association. She was involved in the integration of the Technical University of Nova Scotia with Dalhousie University.

In 1997 Dr. Fee left Dalhousie to join the Technical University of British Columbia as an academic assistant to the president and associate professor before becoming associate vice-president. She was involved extensively in policy development and all phases of academic planning. Subsequently she served as acting vice-president of Learner Services through to the transfer of the Technical University to SFU, whereupon she joined the new SFU Surrey campus.

At SFU Surrey, Dr. Fee served as a special advisor to the Dean of Applied Sciences and associate professor in the School of Interactive Arts and Technology while also working with the Campus Coordinating Committee charged with the overall development of the Surrey campus. These appointments were followed by her appointment as director, student recruitment, enrollment and retention in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

During her academic career, Dr. Fee has compiled an impressive list of refereed publications, refereed papers, book chapters, and invited presentations. She has served on university boards, councils, and committees at virtually all operational and academic levels.

Dr. Fee will bring familiarity with the British Columbia post-secondary education system as a direct result of her experience in the system. This experience and familiarity extends also to the Fraser Valley region served by Kwantlen. Dr. Fee is a native of Surrey.
