A Surrey student is headed to the 2013 Skills Canada competition after winning gold at the provincial level for her website savvy.
Fraser Heights Secondary’s Heyang (Lucy) Wei won gold in the category of website development and will represent B.C. at the nationals June 5 to 8 in Vancouver.
Fleetwood Park Secondary’s Vishal Kalsi also won gold in the sumo robot junior skills competition, but the junior events are not national qualifiers.
“We’re so proud of all our students for their remarkable display of skills and talent,” said Susan Chow, principal of career education for the school district.
The provincial competition raises the profile of trades and technologies jobs as viable and attractive career options for B.C. youth. A Skilled Trades for Women Conference was also held on site at the provincial competition.
