Delta Mayor Lois Jackson, Fred Kaiser, chairman and CEO of the Alpha Group, and Coun. Robert Campbell, were on hand last week at Boundary Bay Airport to celebrate the new Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) recently installed on Runway 07.
A $300,000 investment, this project includes electrical upgrades as well as a new Airfield Lighting Control System for the Control Tower – all of which were completed on time and under budget. The PAPI lighting system uses a series of red and white lights to guide a pilot while on approach to the runway and indicates whether he or she is high or low on the glide path.
“I am pleased to see ongoing investment in Boundary Bay Airport, which has transformed into a world class airport over the last several years, as a result of our partnership with Alpha Aviation and their dedication to investment in new infrastructure,” said Jackson. “These upgrades reinforce Boundary Bay Airport as a vital transportation hub for air traffic in the Greater Vancouver region.”
The PAPI investment continues Delta's vision to create a first-class airport with surrounding industrial development at Boundary Bay Airport. In 2003, the assessed value of all properties at the airport totaled $5.4 million, generating $143,000 in taxes. Since then, Boundary Bay Airport’s value has grown exponentially, with the 2014 assessment at over $84 million, generating in excess of $1.5 million in taxes.
“With the growth of major employers around the airport’s industrial lands, we are adding value to our tax base and creating jobs locally,” said Campbell. “These enhancements, along with the new terminal building, effectively position Boundary Bay Airport as a first class facility, welcoming opportunities for growth in corporate aircraft clientele.”
