Victoria Barker felt she had some extra time on her hands this summer – time she felt could be best used giving back to her community.

So on Aug. 27 she held a car wash in Cloverdale.

The 15-year-old Lord Tweedmuir Secondary student raised $525 which she donated to the Salvation Army for back-to-school supplies.

Reading through a long list of supplies needed by one little boy, Victoria quickly fills up a bag full of  paper, pens, erasers, glue stick among other things.

"I didn't have any plans this summer," said the shy, bespectacled teen, "so I felt I would try do do something positive."

On Friday, she spent the day handing out the various back-to-school essentials along with brand new backpacks to nearly 50 kids.
