WATCH HISTORY COME ALIVE THROUGH THE FRONTIER TALE BLAZERS THIS SATURDAY

Extra! Extra! This weekend is the community’s last chance to meet historic figures of Surrey’s past.

The Frontier Tale Blazers’ reenactment program brings to life stories and events during the period 1872 to 1945. Launched at the City of Surrey’s Canada Day celebrations on July 1, professional actors recreate the lives and experiences of early settlers in live, interactive and fun performances.

Rotating performances will occur every 20 minutes from noon to 4 p.m. at the Surrey Museum (17710 56A Ave.) this Saturday (Aug. 18). Admission is free.

Meet Stan McKinnon, editor of the Surrey Leader newspaper, who will enlighten you about what it was like to be a ‘printer’s devil’ and give a lesson about the history of printing, the Gutenberg Press and his new linotype machine.

Hear Miss Mary Jane Shannon, tell tales of teaching in Cariboo country and learn about options for young women from this adventurous maverick.

Visit the 1872 Anderson Cabin to meet pioneer Eric Anderson and hear how he sailed the world then deserted whaling life to settle in Surrey and build his own homestead.

Those three and more offer the community an opportunity to engage with their city’s heritage.
