City spending $3.4M on 17 signals, eight near schools

SURREY - The City of Surrey will be spending roughly $3.4 million to construct 17 traffic and pedestrian signals throughout the city.

City council approved the contract, awarded to Winvan Paving Ltd., during Monday night's council meeting. The contract consists of traffic signals, intersection improvements and signalized pedestrian crossings.Eight of the crossings are part of the city's Safe and Active Schools program, in which the city is investing more than $4 million to improve safety for children around schools. Crossings are planned near schools including L.A. Matheson Secondary, K.B. Woodward Elementary and Surrey's Khalsa School.Pedestrian signals are being installed at the following locations:. The 13300-block of 64th Avenue. 122nd Street and 96th Avenue. 132nd Street and 105th Avenue. 124th Street and 70A Avenue. 124th Street and 69A Avenue. 24th Avenue and 150th Street. 72nd Avenue and 125th Street. 64th Avenue and 125th Street. 101st Avenue and Whalley Boulevard. 152nd Street and 17A Avenue. 88th Avenue and 158th Street. The 10200-block of University Drive. Traffic signals will be installed at the following locations:. 60th Avenue and 128th Street.
