Delta Police officers and municipal firefighters will battle on the ice for the ultimate bragging rights – and charity – at Sungod Arena on Saturday.

Delta cops and fire crews are going head to head in a hockey showdown for charity this month.

On Saturday, Jan. 25, Delta Police officers and municipal firefighters are competing in the first Battle of the Badges Hockey Showdown, with teams led by Delta Police Chief Jim Cessford and Delta Fire Chief Dan Copeland.

“In the spirit of community and giving back, Delta Fire and Delta Police look forward to showcasing their skills in a competitive charity hockey game,” said Copeland.

During the first and second intermissions, cops and firefighters will be showing off their equipment and skills, and there will be interactive displays and photo opportunities throughout the evening.

Both departments will also be displaying their command vehicles outside the arena before the game.

Traditionally, these players skate together as one team under the Delta Bulls name. But for this one night they will be facing off against each other in the Battle of the Badges for the ultimate bragging rights.

The Delta Bulls hockey team has previously competed at the World Police Fire Games, coming in fourth place overall in New York in 2011.

All proceeds from the evening will go to support the Delta Firefighters Charitable Society, Cops for Cancer and the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The match will be held at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) on Jan. 25 at Sungod Arena, 7825 112 St.

Tickets are $5 for youth (two to 13 years) and $10 for adults (14-plus). Children under two years old are free.

Tickets can be purchased – cash only – at the Delta Police headquarters in Ladner (4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent) or the North Delta Public Safety Building (11375 84 Ave.). They can be purchased by credit card at http://www.deltapolice.ca
