Want to save some energy?
BC Hydro will be handing out free energy saving kits at the Muslim Food Bank, at 101-13085 115 Ave. on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The kits, handed out in partnership with FortisBC, include LED lightbulbs, weather stripping to reduce drafts around windows and doors, high-performance showerheads, an LED night light, a fridge and freezer thermometer and water-saving tap aerators, which combined can save residents up to $80 in electrical costs annually.
The Energy Saving Kit program started in 2008 and since then more than 100,000 customers throughout the province have received a kit, which also contains a step-by-step instruction guide on how to install all this free stuff.
If you can’t make Saturday’s event, you can also apply for a kit online or by calling 1-800 BCHYDRO (1-800-224-9376) or 604-224-9376 in the Lower Mainland, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
You’ll be asked for your name and BC Hydro account number on the top right corner of your bill, the number of people in your household and your total household income.
