SURREY — On the first Tuesday of summer, dinner will be served to 200 guests seated at a very long table in Surrey.
Another food-focused event called The Long Long Table: A Canadian Affair will take place on June 27 at Civic Plaza, at Surrey City Hall.
The unique dining experience offers a “Canada 150”-themed celebration for $40 per plate.
The Vancity-presented event will feature a table 280 feet in length – about the size of a football field.
“It is a chance for people who work, live and learn in our downtown core to come together and celebrate community,” says the Downtown Business Improvement Association in an event advisory. “Additionally, this year The Long, Long Table will also be celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday.”
Each of the dinner’s five courses will feature a “different narrative of Canadian heritage,” including bison meatballs in gravy, oven-baked bannock with candied salmon and blueberry sauce, mini lobster rolls and maple birthday cupcakes.
The ingredients are all locally sourced, the BIA says, “so diners will have an opportunity to not only eat a delicious meal, but can support local farmers as well.”
Guests will be entertained by musicians and performers tasked with showcasing “Canadian culture and talent” throughout the evening.
Tickets will be available online until June 26 at llt2017.eventbrite.ca.
