SURREY — Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 8, and there are several events planned in Surrey.

Audrey and Gerry Hall have organized a jazz vespers program at Northwood United Church in Fleetwood. The late-afternoon concerts have been going for more than four years, and happen on the second and fourth Sundays of each month, from September to June.

“We have had the good fortune to book some of the best musicians Vancouver has to offer. We cannot include all who ask for dates,” Audrey says. “Having a good cross-section of various types of jazz is our aim. The community has embraced this beyond our expectations.”

This coming Mother’s Day, The Hot Mammas will once again perform at Northwood. This will be the third year of celebrating Mother’s Day with this three-part harmony trio. They have been a favourite of this community of jazzers every time. Julie Brown, Mary Ella Young and Georgina Arntzen are The Hot Mammas. They are accompanied by Tom Arntzen on piano, Arnt Arntzen on guitar, Dave Guiney on bass and Scott Robertson on drums. The church is at 8855 156 St.; the hour-long event begins at 4 p.m.
