Surrey’s newest neighbourhood park has two play areas on a small piece of land near South Newton townhouses.

Edmund Park is located near 152 Street and Highway 10, west of the Townsend development at Panorama Village (15149 Edmund Dr.), where a ribbon-cutting event was held May 8.

A pair of playground structures are built on the 0.4-acre property, now among the 800-plus parks managed by the City of Surrey.

More than 200 of them have “active amenities” such as sports fields, sport courts, playgrounds, community gardens or picnic areas, and more than 600 of the city’s parks “protect natural areas, open space, and biodiversity as part of the larger green infrastructure network.” They’re all listed and searchable on surrey.ca/parks.

In a survey last spring, area residents were asked to suggest names for the new park in South Newton. “We received 294 responses. The most popular response was to name it after the street the park is located on, Edmund Park,” says a public engagement summary posted on surrey.ca.
