A South Surrey home is up for grabs in a lottery that helps support health care research and equipment purchases in Vancouver.

Millionaire Lottery tickets are on sale now until Jan. 11 or until they sell out. Money raised from the sale of tickets goes towards the purchase of new equipment, advancing health care and toward advancing research at Vancouver Genera Hospital, University of British Columbia Hospital, GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre, Vancouver Coastal Health Institute and Vancouver Community Health Services, according to a release.

“From point-of-care ultrasounds to mobile X-ray machines; from research in ovarian cancer to healthy aging and addiction medicine research, lottery proceeds are providing the best tools to skilled physicians and surgeons, as well as advancing medical care and knowledge in our province,” said Angela Chapman, CEO and president of VGH and UBC Hospital Foundation.

“Together, we transform health care.”

Of the prizes listed for the winner to choose from is a home in South Surrey’s Ocean Park neighbourhood. Located at 1873 129 St., it has four bedrooms, four-and-a-half washrooms and is 3,645 square-feet. Including furnishings valued at more than $85,000 the prize package is worth more than $3.1 million, the release adds.

Other prize homes are located in Langley, Burnaby, Richmond, Vancouver, Courtney, West Kelowna, Lake Country and Sooke, starting at a value of $2.9 million, with the South Surrey prize holding the highest value. Another option for the winner is a cash prize of $2.7 million.

“The simple truth is, if you are seriously ill or injured, VGH and UBC hospitals are your best chance. There are few illnesses or injuries these medical teams cannot treat, no matter how complex or rare,” says Todd Talbot, spokesperson for the lottery.

According to the lottery’s website, more than $85 million has been raised for the hospitals through the Millionaire Lottery, that began in 1996.
