PHOTOS: 10th annual Luminary Festival lights up North Delta

Thousands celebrated the end of summer at Sunstone Park on Saturday, Sept. 9

North Delta’s Sunstone Park was aglow Saturday night as thousands celebrated the end of summer at the City of Delta’s annual Luminary Festival.

“As we celebrate the remarkable 10th anniversary of Delta’s Luminary Festival, our largest cultural event in North Delta, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for the unwavering support that has made this free community event a cherished tradition for children and families,” Mayor George Harvie said in a statement. “Over the years, this festival has not only illuminated Sunstone Park but also the connections that bind us as a community.”

Homemade lanterns lit up the night as residents came adorned in costumes and face paint to take part in the festivities, which culminated with the crowd-favourite Lantern Parade around the lake.

Performers this year included Circus West, juggler Mike Battie, Minds of a Snail Puppet Company and DJ Bella Sie, plus stilt-walkers, hoopers, lion dancers and a drumming circle, all against the backdrop of beautiful light installations and interactive activity stations.
