The 21st Hike for Hospice has raised more than $36,000 for Peace Arch Hospice Society.
Held May 5, the annual event drew some 135 participants — and more than 20 canine companions — to Blackie Spit Park in Crescent Beach, in support of PAHS’ grief and palliative support programs and services.
The pledge-based effort is the society’s biggest fundraiser of the year, drawing teams and individuals out for a morning of fresh air, camaraderie, fitness and fun. More than 45 volunteers pitched in more than 100 hours to pull it together.

The top individual Hike fundraiser was David Chesney, who raised $1,975; the team that raised the most was Oceana Parc, at $4,790.
Hospice fund development officer Emiko Angus said the society is “so grateful” for the community’s compassion and generosity.
“The support we received at our Hike for Hospice event from participants, sponsors, donors, and volunteers means so much to our organization and the people we serve,” Angus said in an emailed statement.
Last year’s Hike for Hospice raised more than $52,000, in part due to one supporter matching donations up to $25,000.
