Rodeo's AGM emphasizes youth

CLOVERDALE - Funding for youth was at the forefront of the annual general meeting of Lower Fraser Valley Exhibition Society (Cloverdale Rodeo) on Tuesday night (Feb. 24) in Surrey.

Director Randy Miller told the 65 voters present that the rodeo's youth volunteer program would be expanded in the coming year and two students would be awarded $500 each for their involvement.He also announced that members Jim and Heather Black, who have been "incredible ambassadors" for the rodeo, would be awarded lifetime memberships.Envision Financial kicked in $7,500 for a kid's zone and $2,500 for a youth foundation.It was suggested during the meeting that all proceeds from future 50/50 draws at the rodeo be poured into the Cloverdale Youth Initiative Foundation.The Cloverdale Youth Initiative Foundation will fund three $1,000 scholarships to be handed out to Grade 12 students.Meanwhile, a motion was proposed that Coun. Bruce Hayne, who is the city appointee, would become a non-voting member in the future.
