Surrey Pride Society is hosting its second annual “So You Think You Can Drag” fundraising gala, where five community members will be transformed into drag.
The five community members will arrive at the venue a few hours before the gala starts to begin their transformation.
They are Surrey-Cloverdale MLA Mike Starchuk, Rory Morgan from Surrey Board of Trade, Debi Johnstone, Cole Izack, founder and CEO of Back on Track Recovery, and Doug Tennant, CEO of UNITI.
After being transformed, each community member will perform.
Surrey Pride president Martin Rooney said they are taking on a challenge for charity.
Each community leader is raising money for a charity of their choice. The final amount raised will be announced at the gala. Attendees will vote for the winner.
The chosen charities are Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society, BC Cancer Foundation, Surrey Christmas Bureau, Peace Arch Hospital Foundation and Back on Track Recovery.
Surrey Pride Society will match up to $5,000 of the funds the winner raises to a charity of their choice. Any remaining net profits will go towards the 2024 Surrey Pride Festival.
Tickets go on sale Jan. 15 for the event, to take place April 13 at Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel. Tickets are $125 each or $1000 per table.
The gala will include a silent auction and a buffet-style meal.
The gala will include live entertainment by the band The Apartment.
