Sunday morning will be busy at the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair this year.

Two events kick off the morning and help get fair-goers rolling early.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Visitors can get into the Cloverdale Fairgrounds for free on Sunday morning (May 19) during Rodeo Weekend.

There’s one catch, though, says Rick Hugh.

“Bring your appetite.”

Hugh is the chair of the Cloverdale Rodeo Youth Initiative Foundation (CRYIF) and the 1st vice-president of the Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition Association. He encouraged fair-goers to attend the foundation’s pancake breakfast Sunday morning, not only for the good food, but to support the foundation.

“Any donation is appreciated,” said Hugh. “The pancake breakfast serves as an important fundraiser for the (Youth Initiative Foundation) in that it helps generate scholarship funds.”

Anyone who comes to the pancake breakfast between 9 - 9:45 a.m. gets free admission to the Fairgrounds that day. The breakfast wraps at 10:30 a.m.

The pancake breakfast will be held in the Hops & Vines venue, adjacent to the Showbarn.

“With a minimum donation, attendees not only get some delicious pancakes, they get in free.”

Hugh said since the inception of CRYIF several years ago, the Foundation has provided close to $70,000 in scholarship money to local high school students as well as financial support to youth-focussed programs in the Lower Mainland.

Two examples of programs CRYIF supports are “You Wear It Well,” which provides graduation wear to high school students who face financial challenges and “Hold High The Torch,” a project developed at École Salish Secondary School to recognized veterans for their service to Canada.

COWBOY CHURCH

Cowboy Church is returning this year.

Also on Sunday morning, Mark Davis from Westwinds Community Church will host a service for all in the Stetson beginning at 10 a.m.

”We are looking forward to Cowboy Church again this year in the Stetson Bowl,” said Kathy Sheppard, president of the Cloverdale Rodeo Association. “Mark Davis will be leading the Sunday service with a western theme and gospel country music.”

Sheppard encouraged attendees to get ready for a welcoming and uplifting worship experience. She said the service is non-denominational and will run for about 45 minutes.

She added that many attend, including those volunteering, working, entertaining, and competing in events, along with their family members.

“People enjoy music, have coffee, meet others, and get a great start to their day.”
