Members of a Surrey-based “giving group” will again put money where their votes are this Friday evening (June 16).

The second meeting of 100+ People Who Care - Surrey will decide which local charity will collect $50 donated by each member of the grassroots group.

Three local charities (NightShift Street Ministries, Boys & Girls Clubs of South Coast BC, Moving Forward Family Services) will provide a five- to seven-minute presentation to group members, starting at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn’s donated hotel venue, on 64th Avenue in Cloverdale. After that, the recipient of funds will be selected by majority vote.

Members of the group meet four times annually to give $50 each to a registered charity in the Surrey/White Rock area, for a per-person commitment of $200 annually.

At the group’s inaugural meeting on March 24, SOS Children’s Village BC was given $3,600 as the chosen charity.

The “100+PWC” group is always accepting new members, according to founder Jen Robbins. Those who cannot attend the meeting can still be a part of the group online, where members must register.

“Individual tax receipts are provided to each participant from the registered charity, and every penny goes to the charity,” Robbins noted.

On the web, the group is at 100peoplesurrey.com and also facebook.com/100PeopleSurrey.
