Surrey RCMP holds Open House – just in time for Police Week.

The public got a close-up look at police work at the Surrey RCMP‘s Open House on May 9.

Surrey RCMP displayed their personnel, equipment and vehicles and techniques, including the Police Dog Service, the Emergency Response Team, and the Forensic Identification Team.

At one point, RCMP Sgt. Dale Carr (left) volunteered to tangle with police dog Izzy.

Air One, the RCMP’s police helicopter, (at bottom) also paid a visit, landing in the centre of the main detachment’s rear parking lot.

Kids were provided with activities and photo opportunities with police equipment, while adults were given information about career and volunteer opportunities.

The event coincided with National Police Week (May 11-17).

Surrey has the largest RCMP detachment in Canada with more than 1,000 police officers, municipal employees and volunteers.

Delta Police is also celebrating National Police Week, which began in Canada in 1970 and was seen as a way to connect with communities and increase awareness about the services that police provide.

On Friday, May 15 Delta Police hosting a fun family event held at the Sungod Recreation Centre, 7815 112 St. from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

There will be police officers from all areas of the department and other staff on hand to highlight the work they do.

The Integrated K9 unit will be performing demonstrations and photo opportunities at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and the Integrated Emergency Response Team will be on hand at 11 a.m. to show off some of their skills and equipment. The Delta Police Pipe Band will be performing at 5 p.m.

There will be raffles and prizes, an opportunity to meet Safety Bear, an appearance by Trauma K9 Caber, tours of our police vehicles and our Emergency Command Vehicle and much more.
