Have a vision of what Surrey might look like in 20, 50 or even hundreds of years from now?

Create it with cookies and candies and enter this year’s Gingerbread Village contest, hosted by Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association (BIA).

Prizes of up to $1,000 will be awarded after the creations are showcased at Central City Shopping Centre from Dec. 2-10, with eight contest categories.

It’s free to enter by the Nov. 24 deadline on downtownsurreybia.com/Events/GingerbreadVillage, where contest rules and entry form are posted.

This year’s theme is “Tomorrow’s Surrey, Today’s Gingerbread.”

Winner of the People’s Choice Award will walk away with $1,000. For that award, people vote with donations to Surrey Christmas Bureau.

Photos of 2022 contest winners were posted to Facebook last December.

“Gingerbread Village is a wonderful holiday event that brings the community together, inspires some friendly competition, and above all helps contribute to a great cause,” says Saije Rusimovici, the BIA’s communications and marketing intern.

The categories are Elementary School (Primary), Elementary School (Intermediate), High School, Post-Secondary, Charity, Non-Profit/Service Club or Community Group, Open (adults 19+) and Open (under 19). Creations will be judged for “wow” factor, uniqueness, attention to detail and more.

All items and decorations must be edible and non-flammable, other than the base and decorative string lights (battery-operated LED type).
