'Truth and Reconciliation' in Surrey Little Theatre play

SURREY - A mix of mystery, romance and moving drama hits the stage at Surrey Little Theatre for the next month.

The Etan Frankel-penned play Truth and Reconciliation closes the company's season and also represents its entry in the annual Mainstage competition hosted by Theatre BC.

Set in a fictional Central American country, the script follows the adventures of a university student and the humanitarian doctor she meets. When the doctor disappears, an investigation ensues.

The play is the fourth for Alaina Holland in the director's chair at SLT.

"What I found absolutely compelling was how much I related to the characters," she says of the script, "regardless of how vastly different their motivations were or their backgrounds and how different they were from me. I think we can all relate to each of them, all fighting passionately for what they believe in."

The play stars Mallory Polliyaguru (as student

Beatriz Fuentes) and Richard Weins (as doctor Ben Montgomery), along with Simon Challenger and Cindy Peterson (as Beatriz's parents), Chris Francisque (as Cesar Santos) and David Secunda (as Bishop Melinda).

Truth and Reconciliation opens a month-long run at Surrey Little Theatre on April 16, with shows Thursday through Saturday, plus Sunday matinees on select dates. For show details, visit Surreylittletheatre. com or call 604-576-8451; tickets are available through Brownpapertickets.com/event/852954.
