White Rock Elks members were busy giving graduating students a helping hand with their post-secondary endeavours over the weekend.

The club held its annual scholarship awards to recognize exceptional youth in the local Semiahmoo Peninsula community, awarding three high school graduates with three, $1,000 scholarships.

With graduation fast approaching, the scholarships were timely for the recipients.

To apply for the scholarship, all students are required to submit a 300-word essay on the importance of volunteering in the community, a core value of the Elks of Canada, noted White Rock Elks committee head for charity and fundraising Bob O’Keefe.

He added a record number of submissions were received this year.
